Thanks to Katherine for this Frugal Baby Tip!
I've spoken with Arm & Hammer, and they say that baking and washing soda are
essentially the same thing, just processed differently. The result is a more
"pure" product - baking soda, that can be used for human consumption or for
general cleaning...washing...etc..
Washing soda can be used for all of the cleaning and washing jobs, just can't
be used for human consumption......
you can also get "feed grade" baking soda at farm supply stores for a
fraction of the cost of either the washing or baking soda that you'd buy at
the grocery store....
Borax, while much gentler than bleach, Biz, Chlorox 2, etc....does have some
environmental impact, is slightly irritating to humans and does, over time,
break down cotton fibers (as well as the waterproof coating on some
covers....)
