Thanks to Angela for this Frugal Baby Tip!
To keep my covers nicer longer I started hand washing and hanging to dry, but this little voice in the back of my head kept scream "Not clean!". So I've been washing with the diapers (warm only), or with other laundry on delicate/regular wash cycle. I'm very careful about not putting them in with hot water, and I never put them in the dryer.
On cool in the dryer would be preferable to hotter heat, but I haven't figured out how to do that with our machine (okay, you can laugh now lol). I have a wooden rack set up in the laundry area, that I hang them on, but I've had just as good luck(and sometimes quicker drying time) hanging them in the bathroom or on a cup hook in a room with heat (unheated basements suck).
I think the hot dryer will break down the waterproofness faster, also if you wash with borax that will break down the waterproofness quickly.
