Thanks to Karen for this Frugal Baby Tip!
It's finally reached the HHH (hazy, hot & humid) weather here in Vermont, and I have just started using training pants over a pinned prefold. Cool, cool baby's bottom! I wouldn't do this going out anywhere, because the training pants have just a waterproof strip up the middle; they aren't watertight.
But that also lets my 14 month old's super sensitive skin breath really well. I'm a frequent changer anyhow, so this provides enough protection to keep my house, rug and furniture clean, and his butt clear.
Actually, not his butt, his problem is a fat thighs groin irritation. This really works for coolness. The training pants are instead of a cover.
