I like the flannel about 8"X8". I use a pericare bottle for my solution, and just squirt it onto each wipe as I need it, and this has worked very well for us. I like to use about 2 Tbsp of baby oil, 2 Tbsp of baby wash, and the rest is water...
I don't really measure, so this may not be exact, I really try to put the least amount of stuff in the water that I can. The oil really helps to "slide" the poopies off gently.
