Thanks to Karen for this Frugal Baby Tip!
I just made a trade this week for a Australian terry cloth diaper. It's a flat fold diaper and approx. 18" square or thereabouts. I used it last night on Lillie and it's a WONDERFUL diaper!!! It's soft and VERY absorbent. I think I like it better than the Proservice Toddler diapers, and I'm pretty sure it will dry quicker. It looks like a square bath towel. Very nice fabric.
The terry diaper make me think of something I known of people doing for diapers. Terry cloth "shop" towels make great inexpensive but really absorbent diapers. You can buy them in automotive departments as well as a lot of the home improvement stores. For a package of 24 they are generally priced around $10 US. They are the size of a regular prefold. We had some
of them left from a recent project and I used one for a diaper and liked it pretty well. It's not as soft as the Australian diaper I used last night, but putting a layer of flannel over it would probably work if you needed something smoother or softer.
