For cleaning baby off, I would highly recommend washing off with water right in the tub or sink (sort of like a sitz bath), and just flush the diaper area with lots of clean warm water (will feel much better!!). Then *pat* dry very gently. This worked for us, along with frequent diaper changes, no diaper covers, etc. Hope that helps, and hope baby is feeling better soon!!

Good point. Just a thorough washing can do wonders. Also, we swear by cornstarch.
