Thanks to Christine for this Frugal Baby Tip!
I've never tried to wash the disposable wipes. For the last 6 months or so, I've been making my own washable wipes.
I bought a pack of 24 cheap blue washcloths at Wal-Mart for $4.99. I found them in the bathroom section, where all the towels and stuff are.
In a glass bowl, I mix about 1/2 cup of baby oil and just a drop of baby wash with lots of water. I dunk my washcloths in and wring them until they're still wet but not dripping, and store them in a Chubs wipes box (the ones that look like huge Lego blocks). About 10 wipes can fit in the box. Then after they're used, I just throw them in the diaper pail and wash them with my dipes.
Some may question the use of the baby oil, but I find it makes it MUCH easier to wipe the poop off the baby's skin. When I use just plain water, it seems too rough and makes it hard to wipe off. The oil also makes a sort of moisture barrier on his skin, and he never gets a rash. Besides the
small bit of oil on my wipes, I don't use any powder or creams on my baby at all. Of course, if your baby has very sensitive skin, you may not be able to use oil.

Olive oil is much healthier for baby's skin and works great! Or even grapeseed oil if you want it to be less oily. I recommend avoiding "baby oil" (which should really not be marketed to babies) at all costs.
