Thanks to Mona for this Frugal Baby Tip!
A quick note about liners...
Bowen hasn't had a poop in a diaper yet, so I don't know about staining, but I just started making my own liners out of an old, soft towel. I noticed that the Gerber prefolds are kind of rough, even after repeated washing, so I used a flannel liner as a pattern, cut them out and hemmed the edges. I find that it does help with leaks, because of the absorbency, and it saves me some money at the same time.
I was considering using the disposable/flushing ones, but I decided against it after seeing some of the prices here in Thunder Bay.... It didn't help that the only place I was able to find them at all was Sears and in the mother/baby specialty stores.
