Diapering_: Newborn diapers

Set of 6 Flannel Family/Baby wipes,$5 - also available with terrycloth for $7, picture by MommaHsDiapersThanks to Karyn for this Frugal Baby Tip!

I've been thinking of just buying terry washcloths cheaply from Costco or Walmart, folding them and pinning them for little newborn diapers.

I love the absorbency and poop-catching qualities of terry. I tried folding some washcloths that I already bought (kite fold, etc.), and I thought they looked like they would fit a newborn.

My husband thinks they would be too small, but from what I've heard, some people are just using liners like the Bummis terry doublers in wraps for the newborn stage. I have a couple of these terry doublers, and they are no bigger than the size a washcloth folds into. Plus I'm thinking I could have a better fit around the legs with pinning; maybe better protection against runny poop leaks.

I would just need them to fit until the baby starts fitting into small Sandy's.

What do you all think? Am I crazy?

  1. It might work - although I don't know if you would be able to pin them well or not - personally I am a fan of just tri-folding in a wrap anyway a lot of the time (although I use a full diaper for nights). Also depends on size of your baby - mine was ready for non-newborn pretty much right away at 9.5 pounds!
