Personally I feel that the 'energy argument' regarding the use of cloth diapers is pathetic! As I am sure the majority of subscribers to this mailing list are aware, there is absolutely no comparison between the environmental impacts of using cloth diapers and using disposable diapers.
I really have never seen a person walking around wearing plastic or paper clothing, (except for some of the Halloween costumes I've seen kids wear!), saying: 'I wear disposable clothes, washing cotton clothing is bad for the environment'. The same goes for washing dishes, washing cars, flushing toilets, and taking showers everyday.
I fail to see how washing a few loads of diapers a week is going to be any worse. At the very least, all the feces and urine is being properly routed to the sewer system which is designed to handle human waste; instead disposable diapers are tossed into landfills where risk of contamination to humans from viruses and bacteria is very high.
You should not feel guilty at all for using 'energy' to cloth diaper your precious child! You are doing our planet a favor. Good for you!

I completely agree! It seems like the only time the "cloth diaper = more energy" arguement comes up is when someone is grabbing for straws to defend their decisions. I can see the point of view a teeny bit but only from the standpoint that change is hard and it's even harder to admit that you have made a bad decision! Usually when someone uses this arguement I turn it around and ask them to consider the much larger impact disposables have on the environment and the health of their child.
